Bees win two of three, qualify for ‘Gold Bracket’ in Saginaw

Stephenville (5-2) won two of three matches in Saginaw Friday, completing pool play with a mark of 5-1, enough to qualify for the “Gold Bracket” starting at 8 a.m. Saturday.

All five Stephenville wins came against 5A or 6A opponents Thursday and Friday, including victories of 29-30, 25-13, 25-13 over Birdville and 25-19, 25-17 against Richland Friday morning. For a look back at three Honeybee wins on Thursday, CLICK HERE.

The only loss came just after lunch Friday, when the Honeybees ran into a defensive Lorena club that prevailed 25-17, 25-22.

Kaleigh Conger had 10 kills while Kerstin Fredrickson 10 digs and seven kills against Birdville. Quarterbacking the offense were setters Chelsea Gillespie with 28 assists and Taylor Garber with 22. Kourtney Seaton had eight kills.

The easy win over Richland included there aces by Mikayla Hobbs, five kills and two blocks by Seaton, 22 assists by Gillespie and 18 assists by Garber.
