Memaw, as her grandchildren lovingly called her, passed from this life into eternal rest on August 18, 2015, after a 2-1/2 year courageous battle with thyroid cancer.

Carol was the youngest of 7 children born to Joe and Minnie Fair Huffman, on January 8, 1938, in Gorman, Texas. Carol married her childhood sweetheart, John P. Henderson, on February 16, 1957, in Stephenville, Texas. She grew up in the School Hill Community and attended all 12 years of school in Lingleville. She graduated as valedictorian of her class which set the foundation for how she lived her life — always doing her very best at everything she did. As a young teenager, she accepted Jesus Christ and along with her sister, Virginia Elaine, they were baptized together in a stock tank on property owned by her aunt, Emmy Yardley. Her faith was always strong and she enjoyed the special friendship of the ladies in her Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church.

She was an active member of the Cross Timbers Quilt Guild and First Baptist Church. She retired from First Baptist Church, Stephenville, as the Food Services Coordinator in 2007. She loved to garden and work in the yard and cook. She took great pleasure in having the grandkids favorite foods prepared and ready anytime they came to visit. Early in their marriage, she and John moved to West Texas, first Coahoma, then McCamey, where they raised their family. For many years, she owned and operated Carol’s Beauty Shop.

Memaw loved her kitties – always putting out food for the creek cats as well as her special inside cats. Punkin and Tigger stayed close by, never wanting to leave her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Minnie Huffman, and six siblings – Kathleen (Sister) Rhodes, Joe B. (Son) Huffman, Bonnie Dean Wells, Naomi Ferguson, Donald Rex Huffman, and Virginia Elaine Hunter Hammitt.

She is survived by her husband, John P. Henderson; daughter, Karen Perry and husband, Allen, of Stephenville; son, Wesley Kent Henderson and wife, Melinda, of Hendersonville, Tennessee; and five grandchildren, Kristi Perry Ward and husband, David, of Flower Mound, Ashley Perry of Crockett, Travis Perry of Odessa, Jodie Beth Henderson and Hannah Joy Henderson both of Hendersonville, Tennessee. Her special pride and joy are her two great-grandsons, Jacob Aaron Ward and Luke Dawson Ward of Flower Mound. They were truly what gave her the courage to battle cancer. She is further survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Her sparkling blue eyes and beautiful smile will be deeply missed. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorials be made to Lingleville East End Cemetery, PO Box 152, Lingleville, TX 76461, First Baptist Church, Stephenville, Cowboy Church of Erath County, Stephenville, or M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. The homebound ministry teams of both churches have been a great blessing to our family, and we express our most sincere gratitude for the kindness extended to us.

The family would like to extend a very special thanks and appreciation to the staff at Universal Hospice, especially her nurse, Rena, and aide, Katy, for their tender kindness, as well as sitters who helped us during these very difficult final days, Sonia, Leta, and Selah. You are all truly angels among us.
