STEPHENVILLE (August 21, 2015) — Stephenville started slow, again. But the Yellow Jackets finished strong, again.
Much like its scrimmage at Liberty Hill six days prior, Stephenville struggled out of the gate, allowing two touchdowns to Granbury while failing to score itself during the controlled phase of each team’s final preseason scrimmage at Memorial Stadium Friday evening.
But just like in its scrimmage with Liberty Hill, the Yellow Jackets finished on a high note, this time in a live quarter simulation in which they outscored Granbury 13-0. Matthew Chapman and Nico Madrid rushed for one score each, both set up by defensive stands that forced punts from deep in Granbury territory.
The Stephenville defense had the majority of the highlights throughout the evening, led by an interception by Seth Heupel and improvements in the run stopping up front. The Yellow Jackets forced three consecutive three-and-outs the first time Granbury had the ball, answering the challenge issued when Granbury did the same to the Stephenville offense to begin the scrimmage.
The next time Stephenville steps on the Memorial Stadium turf, everything will count for real. The Yellow Jackets host Venice (Fla.) in their season opener next Friday, August 28, at 7:30 p.m.
