STEPHENVILLE (Aug 20, 2015) – If you are a young woman who loves the rodeo, this contest may be perfect for you.
The Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo Committee is hosting the Rodeo Queen Contest this September for residents and students of Erath and adjoining counties. Application packets can be picked up at Capital Hatters, Easter Air, Hayden Real Estate and the Stephenville Chamber of Commerce ,or downloaded from cowboycapitalrodeo.weebly.com. All entries are due to the Chamber office on Sept 4.
“The Cowboy Capital of the World Pro Rodeo Association is looking for young ladies who demonstrate a positive attitude, genuine sportsmanship, understanding of the sport of rodeo, and a passion for promoting the western way of life,” Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce July Danley said.
The three different categories – Miss (18-23 years old), Teen (13-17 years old) and Princess (6-12 years old) – will be judged through several different events. Contestants will write an essay about rodeo, horsemanship, speech, interview, personality, appearance and ticket sales. On Sept 8, the girls must attend a mandatory orientation and clinic. A horsemanship/interview session and speech/modeling session will be held on Sept 19. All applicants will ride in the Rodeo Parade on Sept 19. Winners will be crowned at the last rodeo performance on Sept 27 at Lone Star Arena.
All three winners will be expected to attend community events throughout the year and will be awarded a trophy buckle, crown and banner. The winner of the Miss category will receive a $1,000 scholarship donated in memory of Glenda Doebbler.
“As a former Miss New Mexico High School Rodeo and Miss Rodeo New Mexico Teen, I can attest to the positive impact the contest experience has on developing important skills and relationships that will enable these young ladies to be successful as they pursue their career goals,” Danley said.
