STEPHENVILLE (September 1, 2015) — NCAA violations at Eastern New Mexico resulted in Tarleton State changing five baseball losses and one football loss to wins Tuesday.

The violations wiped out ENMU victories and championships in which ineligible players participated from 2008 to 2012. The university is also on probation for four years and will pay a $3,500 fine to the NCAA, according to an article published online today by the Clovis News-Journal.

For Tarleton football, the change in record is the difference in 3-8 and 4-7 on the gridiron in 2010, its first season under head coach Cary Fowler, whose overall record leading the Texans improves to 28-24. The Texans lost 35-10 at ENMu on Nov. 13, 2010.

For Tarleton baseball, two losses changed to wins means a winning record of 30-28-1 in 2009, and three changed results in 2010 means an overall record of 29-21. Head coach Bryan Conger now has an official record of 187-127-2 after six seasons at the helm.

Tarleton swept ENMU in all other sports during the seasons affected.

The ENMU violations were first uncovered when Kristen Soukop took over as compliance director there in 2012, according to a statement by athletic director Jeff Geiser published in the Clovis News-Journal report. The university volunteered as early as 2009 to vacate the wins and championships.

The Clovis paper reports that the 16-page NCAA report cites numerous violations including “lack of amateurism certifications, student athletes not earning enough credits to progress their degrees and allowing students who had completed their eligibility to return a fifth season.”

“The university is getting what it deserves,” ENMU President Steven Gamble told the Clovis News-Journal. “We deserve some punitive measures for violating NCAA rules on eligibility.”
