STEPHENVILLE (September 15, 2015) — The scary moment for Stephenville when starting quarterback Easton Jones went down Friday against Everman appears to have been just that – a scare.
Jones, a sophomore, suffered a lower leg bone bruise, or contusion, but as suggested by him returning to the field to hold for the game-winning field goal in a gritty 10-7 victory at Memorial Stadium, and evidenced further by x-rays Saturday morning, the injury does not appear to be serious.
“I need to see how he looks as the week goes on, but he looked fine (Monday),” said first-year Stephenville head coach Greg Winder Tuesday morning.
Winder’s squad moved up one rung to No. 8 in the Associated Press Class 4A rankings this week. Stephenville was tied for ninth in last week’s poll.
The Yellow Jackets and Jones have an extra day before their next game, a tough test at 5A Lubbock Cooper. Kickoff Saturday is 2 p.m. at Pirate Stadium in Lubbock.
