STEPHENVILLE (September 22, 2015) — Just because the National Finals Rodeo slips out of reach doesn’t mean it’s the end of the road for professional cowboys.

There are still rodeos, still chances to pocket some cash, still opportunities to get hot for the next big one.

Stephenville calf ropers Chase Williams and Trent Walls each took advantage of such opportunities last weekend, and each brings serious momentum into the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo this weekend at Lone Star Arena.

Williams was crowned tie-down champion at the St. George Lions Dixie Roundup in St. George, Utah, pocketing $1,622 in 8.5 seconds. He also placed sixth in the opening round of the historic Pendleton Round-Up in Pendleton Oregon, winning another $1,218 in 9.3 seconds.

The $2,840 in winnings moves Williams up to 31st in the world, just behind No. 30 Cody Ohl of Hico and No. 27 Cimarron Boardman of Stephenville. Two Stephenville tie-down ropers – No. 3 Marty Yates for certain and likely No. 13 Sterling Smith – are already thinking NFR.

Walls is ranked 44th in the world after his big week. He finished third in the average at Pasadena Livestock Show & Rodeo, roping and tying two head in 20.5 seconds for $1,760 after earning $1,791 by winning the first round in 9.1. He earned a robust total of $3,551 at the rodeo.

Boardman tied for second in the second round at West Texas Fair & Rodeo in Abilene, earning $1,051 in 8.0 seconds.
