SAN ANTONIO — Luiza Ferraro-Adas shined in the consolation bracket of the ITA South Central Regional Tournament at St. Mary’s University this weekend.

After dropping her first match of the weekend with a hard-fought 7-6, 6-3 battle to Dallas Baptist, Ferraro-Adas battled back to win five straight matches in the consolation bracket to claim the title. She battled back from a 4-6 loss in the first set of her second match to defeat Western New Mexico 6-4, 10-3 in the deciding two sets. She cruised past Newman and Kingsville before defeating Texas-Permian Basin and Dallas Baptist in the semifinals and finals to claim the championship.

Meanwhile, Erika Richarme went three rounds deep into the championship bracket – the farthest of any TexAnns this weekend. The sophomore from Montgomery swept Dallas Baptist 6-0, 6-0 in the opening round of the tournament before earning her second win with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Newman. She bowed out in the third round following a 6-3, 6-7, 1-6 loss to St. Mary’s.

Ashleigh Elward and Elena Preadca also went immediately into the consolation bracket with first round losses. Elward rebounded with wins over Cameron and Metro State to go 2-2 in singles for the weekend while Preadca won her second match against St. Mary’s before bowing out to Texas-Permian Basin in her third match of the weekend.

Ellie Stevens and Shelby Fillingame did not play this weekend due to injuries.

In doubles action, Tarleton’s tandems of Richarme and Elward as well as Ferraro-Adas and Preadca each won their opening match of the weekend. Richarme and Elward cruised past Dallas Baptist with an 8-2 win before racking up another in the next round with a 9-7 win over Western New Mexico before bowing out with a 2-1 doubles record for the weekend. Preadca and Ferraro-Adas defeated Western New Mexico 8-4 in the first round before falling to St. Mary’s in the ensuing match.
