STEPHENVILLE (September 29, 2015) — Stephenville needed just an hour to throttle Mineral Wells 25-10, 25-15, 25-9 and improve to 2-0 in District 6-4A volleyball action Tuesday evening at Gandy Gym.

The Honeybees have their first tough test in district play at 6 p.m. Friday when they visit reigning league champ and traditional state power Abilene Wylie.

It was another balanced offensive effort that paced Stephenville in the easy win, as Mikayla Hobbs and Kourtney Seaton each knocked down seven kills shots, Nicona Stilwell added six and Kaliegh Conger five. Chelsea Gillespie had12 assists and Taylor Garber 11 to go with a robust four aces.

Kylee Ponder made 22 digs for Stephenville, while Conger added nine and Gillespie eight. Stilwell had three total blocks.

The first set was never in doubt after Stephenville jumped on top 10-3, but the second set required a lot more work. Stephenville found itself trailing 10-6 in the second, but promptly answered the challenge with an 11-1 run for a 17-11 lead. The third was close early, but turned into a laugher when Stephenville scored 15 straight points – a side out and 14 with junior libero Kylee Ponder serving – for a 22-7 advantage.
