TexAnns topple TWU in battle of conference co-leaders

After more than a week of being part of a three-way tie at the top of the Lone Star Conference volleyball standings, Tarleton State (17-3, 7-1) completed a season sweep of Texas Woman’s (15-4, 6-2) Friday, leaving the TexAnns tied with an Angelo State team they host next week.

Tarleton used four sets to extend its win streak to nine matches Friday evening, defeating TWU, 25-17, 16-25, 25-19, 25-18. Tarleton now owns a season sweep of the Pioneers – the TexAnns also won in four sets at TWU earlier this season – after snapping their seven-match win streak.

Reigning conference and national offensive player of the week Hailey Roberts aced seven serves and knocked down 23 kills while tallying 13 digs and two blocks. Xzache Mathis had 12 kills, Kenya Alexander added nine kills and three blocks and Kelsey Raglin tallied seven kills, three blocks and 11 digs.

Gow continued her solid quarterbacking of the TexAnn attack. The sophomore setter racked up 47 assists and made nine digs while Ayssa Garcia paced the receive game with 17 digs.

The TexAnns have their own homecoming match at noon Saturday when they host Texas A&M-Commerce. The showdown with Angelo State concludes Tarleton’s five-match home stand at at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
