ERATH COUNTY (October 22, 2015) — Donnell Armstrong, 52, of Marion, Arkansas, died Thursday when the 18-wheeler he drove hydroplaned and he lost control, ultimately striking a tree, according to Texas Department of Public Safety Senior Public Information Officer Dub Gilliam.

Erath County Sheriff’s Office received an emergency call reporting the accident at 11:59 a.m., moments after the 18-wheeler hydroplaned and exited the left side of the roadway, causing Armstrong to over-correct and exit the right side of the roadway. He was thrown from the vehicle upon impact with a tree, according to Gilliam. The truck-tanker was traveling north from Hamilton County and was en route to San Angelo, Gilliam said. Armstrong had crossed the Erath County line just moments before the accident.

Erath County Justice of the Peace, Precinct 1, Shawnee Bass, was later called in to pronounce the driver dead at the scene. Trooper BJ Hill and Sergeant Lynn Pierce investigated the accident for Texas DPS.
