STEPHENVILLE (November 10, 2015) — Head coach Alan Thorpe wasn’t sure what to expect from his Stephenville girls team when they tipped off Tuesday night.

What he got when his Honeybees hit the court at 5A Burnet was exactly what so many have come to expect from his teams – a dominating defensive performance and enough offense to cruise.

Kali Smith scored 16 points and Bayleigh Chaviers added 12 in the 62-41 road win that was never in doubt thanks to a 23-6 lead by the end of the first quarter. Stephenville was ahead 34-19 at half and used a 17-10 third quarter to take a 51-29 advantage to the fourth.

Stephenville had just one more field goal (16) than Burnet (15), but the Honeybees knocked down six 3-pointers, led by Smith with four. Skyler Chipman had one on her way to nine points. Chaviers hit the other in the first quarter, when Smith drained her first three.

Payton Wall and Ebony Green each scored six for Stephenville. Green did all her scoring from the line, where she was 6-8. Chaviers was 5-5 from the stripe where the Honeybees were 24-31 on the night.

Jordan Carter and Liz Pack each scored four, Abby Brauner three and Cheyenne Carlson two for Stephenville.

The Bees played without Mikayla Hobbs, Emily Brandon and others, who are still in the volleyball playoffs. The basketball team is idle this weekend and visits 5A power Aledo next Tuesday.
