RANGER – The Ranger College Speech and Debate team garnered a lot of attention this past weekend at the Texas Intercollegiate Forensics Association Tournament at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi.
A lot of attention … and even more votes.
The RC Speech & Debate team placed third among all small colleges at the meet. Overall, the team finished seventh in a field that featured 15 colleges and universities.
“I’m really proud of the team and how far we’ve come in such a short time period, but we want to finish much stronger than we started,” said coach John Mikolajcik, who also serves as the announcer for the Ranger College men’s and women’s basketball games as well as a and full-time Speech Instructor.
Top performers for Ranger College included Tyler Brooks, Peyton Donahoo and Linda Rubio. Brooks and Donahoo took fourth in the Duo competition, while Rubio placed sixth in Communication Analysis.
In addition, several team members garnered Top Novice Speaker awards.
“We really keep improving as a team,” said coach Kevin “Pkev” Daily, who also teaches Speech at the college. “Our motto is ‘it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.’ And we really want to finish well at the Junior College Nationals in April in Costa Mesa, CA.”
The team’s next tournament is the first weekend in December at Cameron University in Lawton, OK.
