STEPHENVILLE (November 14, 2015) — Tournament MVP Bailey Wipff scored 17 points and Ikpeaku Iwobi recorded a double-double as Tarleton State pulled away from Texas A&M-International in a 74-57 win at Wisdom Gym Saturday night.

Iwobi had 12 points and 12 rebounds while Meagan O’Dell also scored 12 for Tarleton in the final women’s contest of the Texan Tipoff Classic. Iwobi and O’Dell each joined Wipff on the all-tournament team.

Wipff hit five 3-pointers and O’Dell four as the TexAnns went 12-33 from outside the arc. The school record for 3-point attempts in a game is 36 against Dallas Christian on December 31, 2004.

“I didn’t realize it was that many. I guess we were just feeling tonight,” said Wipff. “Raven hit some, Meagan hit some, some girls off the bench hit some, it was good.”

The TexAnns had 31 attempts through three quarters Saturday, but took only two shots from deep with the game well in hand throughout the fourth quarter.

“It’s all about movement and good screens,” Wipff said. “We can’t do anything without our post players setting good screens.”

Tarleton had to fight off 16 points, six boards, four assists and two steals from TAMUI star Jessica Prieto, who had 17 in the first quarter of a game on Friday. She also made the all-tournament team, along with Kaylin Rohler and Jameesha Wade of Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Wipff matched up with Prieto for a portion of the game, helping hold her to just two points in the second half.

“She’s a good player,” Wipff commented. “They just told me to keep her in front of me and trust my teammates to back me up.”

Tarleton outscored TAMUI 20-13 off turnovers and 24-10 off the bench. The TexAnns had as many steals – 12 – as turnovers, and 16 assists to just nine by TAMUI. The score was tied four times in the first half but Tarleton never trailed.

The TexAnns are home again Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff against Our Lady of the Lake University from San Antonio.

Tarleton and TAMUI, a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, will meet again on November 24 in Laredo.
