TexAnns sweep LSC weekly honors after championship-clinching weekend

STEPHENVILLE – If winning the first conference championship in school history was main treat, the weekly Lone Star Conference awards was the cherry on top as Tarleton swept the final three honors of the regular season.

Hailey Roberts, Ayssa Garcia, and Chandler Gow were named the Offensive, Defensive, and Setter of the Week, respectively, Tuesday afternoon in the final weekly release of the season by the Lone Star Conference. Its is the fourth award of the season for Roberts and Gow, respectively, and the second for Garcia.

With 37 kills over the weekend, Roberts was the offensive force that helped guide Tarleton to its first-ever Lone Star Conference title. She posted a double-double in wins over Midwestern State and Cameron with 19 kills, 13 digs and 18 kills, 15 digs, respectively, to average 6.17 kills and 4.67 digs per set. Defensively, Garcia led the TexAnns in digs with 35 in two wins. The senior had 19 versus Midwestern State and 16 in the title-clinching game against Cameron. Garcia helped hold opponents to a .087 hitting percentage over the weekend with 5.83 digs per set.

Meanwhile, Gow led the league’s top-ranked offense by assisting on 79 of the 89 Tarleton kills over the weekend to help the TexAnns clinch their first-ever Lone Star Conference title. Gow averaged 13.1 assists per set and now has 1,256 assists on the season, only the second TexAnn to ever reach 1,200 in a single season.

The TexAnns will be the host institution for this week’s Lone Star Conference championship tournament, which begins Thursday at noon in Wisdom Gym. Tarleton’s first game will be Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
