ERATH COUNTY (November 20, 2015) — James Lange, 29, of Erath County, faces a $250,000 bond after the shooting incident at his residence in La Sombra Estates off of Farm to Market Road 219 just north of Dublin Thursday.

The victim, identified by Erath County Sheriff Tommy Bryant as Jacob McNeil, 27, was taken by CareFlite to a Fort Worth hospital. He was listed as critical Thursday night, but Bryant said his condition had improved by noon Friday.

Bryant said more information has come to light regarding the incident.

“Apparently (Lange) fired a warning shot and told him to get off his property,” said Bryant. “The guy started to walk away then stopped and turned around and (Lange) shot him.”

Bryant said that explanation alone, however, was not enough to sway officers from charging Lange with assault with a deadly weapon, a second degree felony.

“You can’t just shoot someone for trespassing,” said Bryant. “There has to be an imminent threat.”
