(November 24, 2015) — A career night by forward Averie Mack wasn’t enough for Tarleton State (3-2) to overcome 28 points by Keiona Matthews in a 67-60 loss at Texas A&M-International Tuesday.

Matthews scored 20 in the second half, when teammate Jessica Prieto had 11 of her 15, leading TAMUI to a 45-32 margin to overcome a 28-22 Tarleton lead at intermission. Matthews was 9-15 from the floor and 10-10 from the stripe and also collected nine boards, four steals and three assists.

Prieto also had a big all around night with seven assists, six boards and three steals for TAMUI, which avenged a 74-57 loss to Tarleton 10 days ago in Stephenville.

Mack scored 19 points including 11-12 from the foul stripe along with 14 rebounds. It’s the first career double-double for the sophomore from Abilene Wylie, who had eight boards on the offensive end alone.

Tarleton shot just 29.8 percent from the floor including only 25 percent in the opening half in its first road contest of the season in Laredo. The TexAnns made up for some of those ills by hitting 21-24 from the line. TAMUI was 17-22 at the stripe and hit 36.5 percent from the floor.

Bailey Wipff was the only other Tarleton player to reach double figures with 10. Ikpeaku Iwobi had nine points and seven boards, snapping her streak of three consecutive double-doubles. Raven McGrath scored eight.

Tarleton is idle over Thanksgiving weekend and welcomes Arlington Baptist College to Wisdom Gym at 5:30 p.m. next Tuesday, December 1.
