STEPHENVILLE (November 24, 2015) — For the 10th time in school history and the first in the regular season since Feb. 17, 2004, Tarleton State is ranked No. 1 by the National Association of Basketball Coaches.
The Texans (4-0) began the season at No. 2 but took advantage of a loss by preseason No. 1 Augustana (SD). Tarleton received 10 of the 16 first-place nods and 389 total voting points, just five more than No. 2 West Liberty (WVa.), which received two first-place nods.
Bellarmine (Ky.) received three first-place votes and is No. 3. California Baptist and Drury (Mo.) complete the top five. No. 11 Midwestern State and No. 13 Angelo State are the other Lone Star Conference teams in the poll.
Tarleton was last ranked No. 1 by the NABC in the 2005-06 preseason. The Texans were ranked No. 1 three consecutive weeks from January 28-February 11 in 2003 and five straight weeks from January 13-February 17 in 2004.
The No. 1 ranking will be tested this weekend in the Tarleton Thanksgiving Classic. The Texans host Colorado State-Pueblo on Friday and Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) on Saturday, both at 7 p.m.
