STEPHENVILLE (December 9, 2015) — For all Erath County does have at the 2015 Wrangler National Finals Rodeo, one thing the Cowboy Capital of the World and surrounding area does not have competing at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas is a bull rider.

Bryce Barrios of Bluff Dale has his focus set on changing that in future years.

Barrios, 20, was named the PRCA Resistol Rookie of the Year in bull riding, and was recognized in front of thousands at Round 6 of the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo Wednesday.

Barrios was largely unchallenged by other rookies for the award, winning by more than $20,000. He finished 23rd in the world standings, and is hoping for the same career trajectory as other recent top rookies, including Chandler Bownds, Trey Benton III, Cooper Davis and reigning world champ Sage Kimzey.

Barrios attended Glen Rose High School as a ninth grader, but was homeschooled the rest of his high school years, according to his profile on ProRodeo.com, official site of the PRCA and the NFR. He raises bucking bulls with his grandfather, Mike Barton.
