Stephenville header Luke Brown and Huckabay heeler Kollin VonAhn roped head and heels in 3.6 seconds to win the round and more than $26,000 each, also improving their hopes of a world championship. Brown is currently sixth and VonAhn fourth in the world standings, and they are third in the average.

Lipan header Chad Masters and Stephenville heeler Travis Graves earned more than $20,000 Thursday night, placing second in 3.8. Clay Smith and Huckabay heeler Paul Eaves finished in 3.9 for third and almost $16,000, while Colby Lovell and Stephenville heeler Kory Koontz too fourth and $11,000 in 4.1.

All three local saddle bronc riders were in the money in the eighth go-round, led by Huckabay’s Cort Scheer in third. Scheer scored 84.6 points on Frontier Rodeo’s Griz, Isaac Diaz of Desdemona was fourth with 83.5 on Cervi Championship Rodeo’s Classic Equine Heaven on Earth and Stephenville product Jacobs Crawley was fifth with 81.5 on Salt River Rodeo’s Smoke Ring.

Crawley slipped to third in the world standings, but with no cause for alarm. Crawley is less than $5,500 behind world leader Rusty Wright and will eclipse Wright and No. 2 Cody DeMoss if he maintains his lead in the average over the final two rounds.

The ninth and 10th rounds are Friday and Saturday with television coverage beginning at 9 p.m. (CST) each night on CBS Sports.
