STEPHENVILLE (December 21, 2015) — Half of the 18 cowboys from in and around Erath County who combined to earn two world championships, three average titles and eight go-round wins at the 2015 National Finals Rodeo returned home to a hero’s welcome Monday evening.
World champion saddle bronc rider Jacobs Crawley, a Stephenville High School graduate, was presented a key to the city by Stephenville mayor Kenny Weldon. Huckabay team roping heeler Kollin VonAhn will be presented with a key at a later date as he is currently on his way from being out of the country with his wife.
Nine of the NFR qualifiers took the stage in the crowded Cowboy Church of Erath County for the program, each posing for photos with their family that attended and taking part in a brief question and answer session hosted by Stephenville Chamber of Commerce Executive Director July Danley.
One-by-one the cowboys thanked their hometown fans for the support throughout the year, and in particular, throughout the NFR.
The event was sponsored by the chamber and the Cowboy Capital of the World PRCA Rodeo Committee, which was represented by president Chad Decker. The Stephenville rodeo was named one of the top five mid-size rodeos nationwide in 2015, the first time it’s received such an honor.
