STEPHENVILLE (December 29, 2015) — This time the big quarter turned in the favor of Stephenville.

The Honeybees beat 6A Mansfield 61-47 at Timberview High School Tuesday afternoon, their final game in the Spring Creek Barbecue Invitational hosted by Mansfield ISD. Stephenville went 1-3 in the event, also losing to 6A Arlington Martin and Wylie and Arkansas 7A Springdale Har-Ber.

Just like those losses were all determined by one pivotal quarter, Stephenville beat Mansfield because of a dominant third quarter performance. The Honeybees outscored the Lady Tigers 21-9 in the third, taking a 46-33 lead into the fourth before cruising to the win.

Bayleigh Chaviers entered the final game averaging 15 points in the tournament, and poured exactly that number through the net against Mansfield. That was second on the team behind Kali Smith with 16, marking the only game in the tournament where Chaviers didn’t lead the team in scoring.

Smith and Chaviers were joined in double figures by Jordan Carter with 10. Ali Thorpe and Skyler Chipman each added six, while Liz Pack and Payton Wall both netted four.

Stephenville returns home to Gandy Gym to face Springtown at 2:30 p.m. Saturday. Junior varsity and ninth grade games start at 1 p.m.
