Tarleton professor named to YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth board

FORT WORTH (January 5, 2016) — The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth has named Dr. Sandi McDermott to its board of directors. McDermott is director of Tarleton State University’s center on the Navarro College Midlothian campus.

“We are excited to have Dr. McDermott join our board of directors,” said YMCA President/CEO Tony Shuman. “She brings a wealth of experience that aligns well with our mission and future goals. Dr. McDermott’s education, nursing experience and enthusiasm will be an asset as we continue to ensure that everyone—regardless of age, income or background—has the opportunity to learn, grow and thrive.”

The YMCA of Metropolitan Fort Worth supports 13 branch locations, a sports complex and a resident camp, serving Tarrant, Johnson and Hood counties.

McDermott has a doctorate in nursing practice from Texas Christian University and master’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. A 2015 graduate of Leadership Fort Worth, she is a member of the North Texas, Texas and American Organization of Nurse Executives and serves on the boards of the Tarrant County College Nursing School and Fort Worth Southwest Area Council Chamber of Commerce.

She began her nursing career as a doctor’s assistant and has worked for Baylor Health Care System as well as Texas Health Resources and Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), where she helped open neuro-oncology and cardiovascular care units.
