STEPHENVILLE (January 14, 2016) — Enjoy an evening of traditional Irish music Wednesday, Jan. 27, when Tarleton State University’s Department of Fine Arts hosts Tommy O’Sullivan and his wife, Saundra.
The free concert begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Clyde H. Wells Fine Arts Center Theater.
One of the great contemporary folk voices of Ireland and a stellar guitarist, O’Sullivan is part of a circle of traditional Irish musicians and recording artists who’ve come to international attention, touring throughout North America and Europe.
Tommy O’Sullivan has an active recording schedule, with three albums as a member of Sliabh Notes and a duet album with Bothy Band piper Paddy Keenan as well as two solo albums. Saundra O’Sullivan is from Houston, with Native American roots. During high school, she sang in several choirs and was a featured soloist.
Tommy and Saundra’s paths crossed when she attended an annual Irish music retreat in Midlothian, Texas, in 2007. Saundra rekindled her love for singing once she moved to Dingle, Ireland. As the couple explored singing together, they discovered her alto harmonies to be a perfect match for his tenor lead vocals, adding a fertile texture to the overall sound. Saundra now is a welcomed addition to the vibrant local music scene in Dingle, where the two make their home.
