(January 26, 2016) — Mason Holstein scored five points during a decisive 9-2 fourth-quarter run as Stephenville went on the road and earned its first District 6-4A win, 53-47, at Brownwood Tuesday.

Holstein hit a floater that broke a 5-0 Brownwood run to begin the fourth quarter and pulled Stephenville within two, then followed game-tying free throws by Evan Moody by hitting one of two himself to give the Yellow Jackets a 44-43 lead with 4:40 to play.

Darian Brown dealt an assist to Josh Nowell for an easy basket in the paint to make it a 7-0 run before Brownwood finally hit a pair of free throws with 2:15 remaining.

Holstein hit two from the line with 1:12 remaining, giving him five points in the fourth quarter and giving Stephenville a 48-45 edge.

Evan Moody made one of two free throws after a defensive stop, but Nowell collected an offensive board on the missed second attempt, setting up a pair of foul shots from Easton Jones that both found the bottom of the net. Jones hit one of two moments later to make it 52-47 and basically seal the win.

Nowell led Stephenville with 14 points and also collected a whopping 21 rebounds for a strong double-double. The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded the Lions by a staggering margin of 46-17.

Brown scored 10 for Stephenville, Jones seven, Cameron Frazier six and Holstein five. Zoey Kendall and Coby Vandenberg each netted four and Moody each added three.

Stephenville has a district bye on Friday and returns to action at home next Tuesday against Mineral Wells. Tipoff will be about 8 p.m., following a girls contest at 6:30 p.m.
