Witnesses said Runnion pulled right out in front of oncoming traffic in an attempt to cross into the center turn lane and was struck broadside by a maroon 1998 Ford Mustang driven by Karen Price, 48 of Stephenville. Gillum said early investigations indicated the Mustang was traveling at approximately 70 mph just before impact.

Erath County EMS, Erath County Volunteer Fire Rescue, Dublin Volunteer Fire Department, Cross Timbers and others responded to the scene. Traffic in the southbound lanes was down to one lane, while northbound lanes were unaffected.
