SAN ANTONIO (February 6, 2016) – Tarleton broke out the big bats while Haley Freyman continued to do her thing from the circle Saturday afternoon and the TexAnns, led by a 4-for-5 day at the plate from Savannah Stech, handled No. 12 St. Mary’s 8-1 to close out the NCAA Division II College Classic in San Antonio.

Savannah Stech played one of the best games I have ever seen her play,” said head coach Julie Mata. “I am so proud of the total team effort we got once again this weekend.”

In a rematch of last year’s NCAA Super Regional Series, Tarleton wasted no time getting on the board as Taylor Fitzgerald drove in Savannah Stech with an RBI fielder’s choice.

Tarleton put up two more in the second on an RBI single from Mikayla Stogsdill and a passed ball that brought home Melody Mayse. After a scoreless third, Tarleton continued to pile on the runs with another two-spot in the fourth when Mayse scored on an error and Stech came across on an RBI single from Fitzgerald to put the TexAnns up 5-0 after four.

Meanwhile, Haley Freyman was in complete control of the Rattler offense.

The sophomore pitcher earned her fifth win in seven games this season with another complete game. She allowed just one unearned run, which came across in the bottom of the sixth, on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts on the day.

For the sake of insurance, Tarleton tacked on two more in the top of the seventh when a St. Mary’s error with runners on first and second loaded the bases with no one out. After back-to-back outs appeared to nearly let the Rattlers off the hook, Stech ripped a 2-RBI single up the middle andKatelyn Conlee followed up with an RBI single to left for an 8-1 lead.

Tarleton poured in 12 hits on the day, led by a career day from Stech, who went 4-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Tarleton also got multi-hit efforts from Conlee (3-4), Mayse (2-5), and Rebeka Allen (2-3) while one from Fitzgerald rounded out the hit parade.

The TexAnns (6-1) will return to action next weekend with a five-game, three-day tournament in Canyon against in-region foes, primarily from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, beginning Friday against Metro State at 11:30 a.m.
