BRECKENRIDGE (February 16, 2016) — Stephenville hit back-to-back 3-pointers to begin the third quarter and never looked back against Wichita Falls Hirschi in the bi-district round of the Region I-4A girls basketball playoffs Tuesday.

Back-to-back 3-ponters by Bayleigh Chaviers and Kali Smith ignited a 16-0 run that ate up much of the third quarter and sent Stephenville on its way to the area round with a 57-46 win.

The Honeybees face off with Bridgeport at 7 p.m. Friday at Aledo. Bridgeport eliminated Midlothian Heritage, 51-32, on Monday.

Listen to what Thorpe had to say about the win over Hirschi and preparing for Bridgeport:

Skylar Chipman stole the ball in the opening seconds of the third and dealt an assist to Chaviers for the first three points of the decisive run. Smith’s three, put backs by Chaviers and Ali Thorpe and a 3-pointer by Ebony Green made it 38-23 when Hirschi finally called timeout with 3:43 left in a quarter the Lady Huskies had yet to score a point in.

Then Stephenville really pulled away. Payton Wall hit a short jumper off an assist from Liz Pack and Chipman knocked down the second of two free throws, making it a 16 straight points before Hirschi finally scored on a 15-foot right-elbow jumper.

Mikayla Hobbs ensured the momentum wouldn’t change hands, however, burying a right corner 3-pointer on the next possession for a 44-25 Stephenville advantage. Hirschi scored the final five points of the period and the first four of the fourth, but Jaycee Morton banked in an aggressive runner to put the Honeybees back on track.

Balanced scoring drove Stephenville as Smith and Chipman each netted 12, Chaviers scored 10 and Green came off the bench with eight. Hobbs added six, Payton Wall four and Thorpe two.

Turnovers by Hirschi and misses in the paint by Stephenville kept the first half competitive. Smith hit two 3-pointers during an 8-0 run for a 12-7 Stephenville lead. Hirschi answered with seven straight including banking in a put back at the buzzer for a 14-12 lead after the first.

Two Chipman 3-pointers put Stephenville back in front late in the second before Hirschi closed a six-point gap to just 25-23 at halftime.
