The American finals to include strong local cast

STEPHENVILLE (February 24, 2016) — The Cowboy Capital of the World and surrounding area will be represented by 17 local athletes, 12 of them team ropers, at the RFD-TV The American Sunday at AT&T Stadium.

Promoted as the richest one-day rodeo in the world, The American finals welcomes the top 10 in the final 2015 PRCA World Standings as automatic qualifiers and other competitors who have endured a qualifying process. Those without automatic qualifications are considered challengers to those in the top 10, and any event champions from the challengers’ pool will split a $1 million bonus.

In the first year of The American, Tarleton State University bareback rider Richie Champion won as a challenger. He went on to reach the 2014 National Finals Rodeo. Last year, former Tarleton tie-down roper Reese Riemer split the $1 million bonus.

Winners in each event, regardless how they qualified, earns $100,000 that is not applicable to the PRCA World Standings.
