Tarleton claims seven all-conference honors

STEPHENVILLE – The Tarleton men’s and women’s track and field teams combined for seven all-conference awards at this past weekend’s Lone Star Conference championships, the league announced on Friday.
To earn all-conference honors, athletes must score at least 14 points or win an event at the LSC Championships.
Highlighting the awards was Aly Coughlin being named the Lone Star Conference Outstanding Female Track Athlete for the second time in her career. Coughlin received the honor in 2014 as well. The senior from Rockwall took home a gold medal at the championships by winning the 3000m and 5000m. Coughlin has the top times in the LSC in both events (9:49.06 in the 3K, 17:11.09 in the 5K) and claimed a provisional mark for each. Coughlin’s times are also both school records.
DeAijha Hicks-Boyce joined Coughlin as the only TexAnns on the all-conference team. Hicks-Boyce earned a pair of medals at the conference championships by taking home a gold medal in the 200m in a time of 24.56 and setting a provisional mark. Hicks-Boyce placed second in the 60m in a time of 24.56 and also set a provisional mark. Both times by Hicks-Boyce are Tarleton indoor school records.
Chase Rathke, Dylan Willett, Blake Eschbach, and Dallas Rushing were all named to the LSC all-conference team for their efforts at the conference championships.
Rathke took home a pair of gold medals by winning the mile in a time of 4:26.52 and the men’s Distance Medley Relay. Rathke owns the LSC’s top time in the mile this season, registering a 4:05.08 and earning a provisional mark earlier this season. The mile time is also a new school record.
Joining Rathke in the men’s DMR was Willett, Eschbach, and Rushing. The quartet took home a gold medal at the conference championships in a time of 10:07.52 for a provisional mark. Eschbach also won a pair of silver medals as part of the men’s 4x400m relay and in the 400m in a time of 47.88 for a provisional mark and a new school record.
Tarleton will now compete at the NCAA Division II Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field Championships on March 11-12 in Pittsburg, Kanas. The qualifiers for the championships will be announced on March 1 at 5 p.m. on NCAA.com.
