COMMERCE (February 27, 2016) — Tarleton State (20-7, 9-5) won its fourth straight and guaranteed itself a top three seed in the Lone Star Conference with a 88-74 win over Texas A&M-Commerce (17-10, 6-8) Saturday at The Field House.

The Texans and Angelo State finished with identical 9-5 marks to tie for second in the LSC, and will take either the No. 2 or No. 3 seed into the LSC Championship. A&M-Commerce was already set as the No. 6 seed and will face the No. 3 seed on Thursday in the LSC tournament quarterfinals.

The victory was the 200th in LSC action for Texan head coach Lonn Reisman, who has 609 wins in 28 seasons at Tarleton. That’s more than the combined career win total of every other coach in the league.

Back-to-back 3-pointers by Chantz Chambers and Nosa Ebomwonyi – both off the bench – pushed Tarleton ahead 56-40 with 12:34 remaining, and A&M-Commerce would get no closer until cutting into a 22-point margin to make it more respectable near the end.

It’s the seventh straight 20-win season for Tarleton and the 13th time the Texans and Reisman have won 20 since joining the NCAA in 1995. Reisman is sixth on the all-time Division II wins list.

Reisman discusses the big win here on The Flash:

EJ Reed led all scorers with 19 on a night when both teams were balanced but Tarleton was simply better, avenging a 67-65 home loss to the Lions earlier this season. Tarleton shot 52 percent in the second half and 49 percent on the game. The Texans have shot 49 percent or better in each of four straight wins and are now 14-0 when shooting at least 45 percent.

Michael Hardge scored 15, grabbed six boards and dealt three assists for Tarleton, while Malcolm Hamilton added 13 points and six boards. Chambers scored 11 off the bench, and starting center Romond Jenkins scored seven and pulled down 10 rebounds. Charles Hill scored eight.

All five TAMUC starters reached double figures as Anthony Adams netted 15 and dealt five assists, Ronnie White scored 14 with seven boards, Jeremy Jones netted 11 and JR Owens and Everrett Pleasant each added 10.

The problem for the Lions was bench production, as Tarleton outscored them 26-14 in that category. The Texans also outscored TAMUC 18-9 off turnovers, 34-24 in the paint and 16-4 on the fast break.
