Damstra, Reed, Hardge honored by LSC

ALLEN (March 1, 2016) – EJ Reed, Jakob Damstra, and Michael Hardge were recognized among the elite in the Lone Star Conference at the annual postseason awards banquet at the Courtyard Marriott in Allen on Tuesday night.

“I’m very proud of all three of these young men,” said head coach Lonn Reisman. “Mike and Jakob are 4-year players for our program and EJ has stepped in and been a big part of what we are trying to accomplish. Again, I’m just very proud of these seniors and what they’ve meant to our program and this university.”

Reed was named First-Team All-Conference after leading the Texans in scoring, rebounding, and 3-point percentage. Reed averaged 18.2 points per game on 56.3 percent shooting, 7.3 rebounds, and shot 38 percent from 3-point range. The senior from Mesquite also posted a team-best nine double-doubles and was named a Lone Star Conference Player of the Week five times this season, the most in the conference. Reed topped 20 points seven times this season, including a career high 27 points against Delta State. It’s the first career LSC postseason award for Reed.

Jakob Damstra was named the Lone Star Conference Academic Player of the Year for the second consecutive season. Damstra is the only player in Tarleton basketball history to receive the conference’s highest academic honor and the third player in Lone Star Conference history to be named the Academic Player of the Year multiple times. The senior from Dublin holds a 3.77 GPA and is a Biomedical Science major.

Michael Hardge was named to the Lone Star Conference Honorable Mention team after leading Tarleton is assists at 4.7 per game and steals at 1.6. Hardge, a 4-year Texan, is fourth all time in assists with 323 for his career and has scored 909 career points. The senior from Georgetown registered career highs this season in points with 21 and assists with 11. Hardge, along with Damstra, are the only 4-year seniors on the roster and have a career record of 99-24. This is Hardge’s second career LSC postseason award after being named second-team all-conference last season.

Reed, Damstra, and Hardge will take the court at the Allen Event Center as the No. 3 seed and take on No. 6 Texas A&M-Commerce in a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday, March. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
