(March 2, 2016) — Brownwood outscored itself by allowing two own goals Tuesday night.
Not that Stephenville needed any help dominating their biggest rival, 6-1, at Lem Brock Field.
The own-goals didn’t create the recipe for the blowout, but they were the icing on the cake as Stephenville wiped the bade taste out of its mouth after faltering in a 2-1 loss at Abilene Wylie four days prior.
An own goal did begin the scoring in the eighth minute, though Stephenville quickly added to it without any assistance from Brownwood. Erin Couch scored a minute later and then Miami (Fla.) signee Bayleigh Chaviers made it 3-0 just five minutes after that.
It took only 10 more minutes for Skylar Chipman to make it 4-0 before Brownwood got on the board five minutes before intermission.
Couch found her brace six minutes into the second half, finishing with two goals in the onslaught. Another own goal finished the scoring six minutes later.
Stephenville improved to 2-1 at the midway point of district and visits Mineral Wells on Friday. The Honeybees have been defeated only once in their past 14 matches.
