ALLEN (March 1, 2016) – A pair of TexAnn juniors – Bailey Wipff and Ikpeaku Iwobi – were recognized among the best players in the Lone Star Conference Tuesday night at the annual LSC postseason banquet at the Courtyard Marriott.

“I am extremely proud of those girls,” said second-year head coach Misty Wilson. “Their work ethic and dedication to being the best they can be is absolutely unmatched and, honestly, I believe they deserve so much more. I don’t necessarily think the voting system best represents the talent we have on our roster, but I am very proud of these two young ladies.

“The best thing about this team is that I know none of them are concerned with the individual awards,” she added. “Their sole focus is on Thursday’s game and that’s all a coach can ask for.”

Wipff, a junior guard from Lubbock, led Tarleton in scoring this season with 13.4 points per game – which was also the fourth-most in the Lone Star Conference. Wipff scored double figures 17 times this season, including a career-high 22 points against Angelo State on Jan. 6. She shot .446 from the floor and .414 from downtown on the season and was a three-time LSC Player of the Week selection.

In addition to her second-team selection, Wipff was named academic all-conference. She boasts a 3.79 grade point average as an interdisciplinary studies major. These are Wipff’s first postseason awards as a TexAnn.

Joining Wipff on the second team was junior forward, Ikpeaku Iwobi. This is the second award of Iwobi’s career, after earning honorable mention honors as a sophomore last season.

Wipff, Iwobi, and the TexAnns will open action in the Lone Star Conference Championship Tournament at 6 p.m. Thursday night with a quarterfinal matchup against the Lions of Texas A&M-Commerce at the Allen Event Center.
