(March 6, 2016) — Tarleton State is the No. 4 seed and will face No. 5 Colorado School of Mines in the opening round of the NCAA Division II South Central Region Championship.

The regional is set for Saturday, May 12 – Tuesday, May 15, at D.L. Ligon Coliseum in Wichita Falls. Lone Star Conference regular season and tournament champion Midwestern State is the top seed and host.

It’s the seventh straight season Tarleton has advanced to the regional tournament. The Texans won the regional at home last year, advancing to the Elite Eight for the third time in school history and on to the national semifinals for the second time.

The other automatic bids went to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference regular season and tournament champ Fort Lewis (Colo.), the No. 2 seed, and Heartland Conference tournament champ Dallas Baptist, the No. 7 seed.

Midwestern officials will set game times on Monday. Preliminary reports suggest Tarleton and Mines will play the last of the four quarterfinals on Saturday, tipping off at 8:30 p.m.
