STEPHENVILLE (Marcy 7, 2016) — Four from Stephenville made the 6-4A girls all-district basketball team, two of them as first-team selections, while five Yellow Jackets were honored, including one first team pick.

Kali Smith and Bayleigh Chaviers, each senior guards, made the first team roster after leading Stephenville to third in the district and on to the regional quarterfinals. District champ Abilene Wylie reached the state semifinals and district runner-up Brownwood joined Wylie at the regional tournament.

Smith was the leading scorer and 3-point shooter for Stephenville, Chaviers the second leading scorer, starting point guard and anchor of an often suffocating full court press.

Skylar Chipman, often partners with Chaviers at the head of the press, is a second-team all-district honoree, while the remaining seniors – Mikayla Hobbs and Ali Thorpe – are honorable-mention selections.

Senior Josh Nowell is the only Yellow Jacket to make first-team on the boys roster. The Jackets finished fourth in district and were eliminated in bi-district by Burkburnett.

Second-team boys selections from Stephenville include Darian Brown and Coby Vandenberg. Honorable mention picks  are Cameron Frazier, Mason Holstein and Easton Jones.

Both teams have several academic all-district selections. Boys include Rett Dittfuth, Frazier, Holstein, Jones, Evan Moody, Nowell and Vandenberg. Girls will be added once made available.
