PITTSBURG, Kan. (March 12, 2016) – Chase Rathke won a bronze medal and earned All-America status for the third straight season with a third-place finish in the Mile Run at the NCAA Track & Field Indoor Championships at Pittsburg State University on Saturday.

“Well we went for it and ran out of gas,” said head coach Pat Ponder about Rathke’s effort in the finals. “We went for the win, which is what we said we were going to do, and he gave it everything he had. I’m certainly proud of him and it wasn’t from a lack of effort. He finished a second away from being a national champion and is an All-American and that’s a pretty nice award. I’m proud of him and he represented this university well.”

Rathke ran the mile in 4:13.69 – one second off from first-place finisher Oliver Aitchison of Adams State who ran the event in 4:12.69. Rathke qualified for the finals by running a 4:05.66 on Friday and place third in the preliminaries. It’s Rathke’s third career medal at the NCAA Indoor Championships, as the senior from Crawford has won back-to-back bronze medals in the 800m over the last two indoor seasons.

He earned All-American status with his third-place finish, adding to his accolades this season when he was named USTFCCCA All-Region and the LSC All-Conference team.

Rathke and the Tarleton Track & Field team will return to its outdoor season at the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas on March 26.
