ERATH COUNTY (March 17, 2016) – St. Patrick’s Day was not so lucky for Shanon Dale Mitchell, 34, who managed to elude law enforcement Wednesday night, but turned himself into Erath County Sheriff’s deputies Thursday just before noon.

It all began when officers attempted to stop a motorcycle Wednesday night after the driver refused to pull over for a traffic stop. The chase continued on FM 219 in Erath County, topping speeds of 130 mph before going on a county road and then through a fence onto private property. Officers lost Mitchell after a brief chase through a pasture.

Thursday morning, deputies received a tip that he was seen leaving a house in Carlton on foot. Working closely with Hamilton County Sheriff’s and Lampasas County Sheriff’s deputies, Erath County law enforcement officials tracked Mitchell to a house in Lampasas.

After speaking with officers on the phone, Mitchell agreed to meet them in Evant where he voluntarily turned himself over to deputies. According to Erath County SO Chief Deputy Jason Upshaw, while he was alone at the time, officials believe Mitchell had help getting to the Lampasas area.

Upshaw said Mitchell was detained while officers secure a warrant for his arrest, which was secured just before 12 p.m. and Mitchell was arrested. The Flash discovered he has a history with law enforcement before this incident, including a 10-year stint in prison for aggravated sexual assault of a 16-year-old female. He is currently a registered sex offender.
