From nighttime races where runners light up the streets or work to outrace brain-starved zombies to benefit runs aimed at raising money to support victims of child abuse and domestic violence, there’s a wide array of events for fitness-minded community members ready to hit the streets this spring.

Whether you’re an avid runner with the stamina to take on 10K course or a lover of the outdoors between the ages of 8 and 80 looking for a new backdrop for your morning – or evening –  walk, lace up your shoes and give any of these area events a shot.

The Flash will continue to update this list with similar events set to take place in Erath, Hood, Comanche and Hamilton and surrounding counties through the end of the year.   

WHAT: Farm to Fork Trail Run and Fun Run

WHEN: 9 a.m. Saturday, March 4

WHERE: Tarleton State University College Farm

The trail and fun run, hosted by hosted by the student chapter of Agricultural Communicators of Tomorrow, is an interactive way to learn more about agriculture and common agricultural practices. 

Trail run participants will follow a path through Tarleton’s working farm, with an opportunity to participate in agricultural activities along a shorter route.

Registration for the three-mile trail is $30 and the fee for the one-mile fun run is $25. The fee includes a t-shirt, breakfast, tours of the dairy and Hydrotron and other activities.

Participants can download a printable registration form and waiver to present at sign up on race day.

Children will get an opportunity to win a prize by completing fun activities.

WHAT: Shamrock Shuffle 5K

WHEN: 7:30 a.m. Saturday, March 11

WHERE: Dublin Public Library

Celebrate the Irish Capital of Texas and St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin, as the Shamrock Shuffle kicks off a full day of fun at 7:30 a.m. 

Runners age 11 and older will pay a $30 entry fee and younger participants can sign up for $15.

Race day registration will be held from 6 until 6:45 a.m. at the Dublin Public Library, located at 206 W. Blackjack Street. 

The 5K will be timed by Race Day Event Services and awards be given to overall male and female finishers and the top three male and female runners in each age division.

Top male and female winner will also have the chance to ride in the front of Dublin’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade at 10 a.m., and all runners will have the option to ride in Titan Fitness’s parade float.

WHAT: TSU Ready, Set GLOW 5K

WHEN: 8 p.m. Friday, March 24

WHERE: Stephenville City Park

Tarleton State Campus Recreation hosts its annual Glow in the Dark 5K, featuring 100s of glow sticks, glow powder, glow paint, black lights, live music, an illuminated dance floor and more.

The organization is partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) of Erath County and Tarleton’s ROTC for the event, which promised to be full of fun and family friendly activities!

Tarleton students and individuals with military identification will receive a $10 discount, and BBBS “bigs” and littles” get free admission when registering in person at the event.

WHAT: Clean Water Kids Ride For The Change

WHEN: 8 a.m. Saturday March 25

WHERE: Stephenville City Park

Join the Clean Water Kid’s bike ride and raise money for clean water projects around the world.

The ride is organized for children in kindergarten through sixth grade, with a ¼ mile course for younger children and one-mile ride for bigger kids. 

Participants are encouraged to make as many laps as they’d like during the ride, and each lap earns them greater prizes. 

The $20 per child – or $60 maximum charge per family registration fee – includes a hot dog lunch, prizes and goody bag. Riders who are registered online by March 17 receive a free t-shirt.

Walk-up registration begins at 8 a.m. March 25 and the ride begins at 9, and riders must furnish their own bikes and helmets.

Proceeds provide ceramic water filters to children and families in rural villages around the world, with each providing clean water for up to five years!

WHAT: Running on Faith 5K and Craft Show

WHEN: 8:30 a.m.  Saturday, March 25

WHERE: Faith Lutheran Church Stephenville

This fun-filled event includes a 5K and one-mile fun run, as well as an indoor/outdoor craft and vendor show and concession area.

Runners (and walkers) can register online.

Groups of five or more get a $5 discount per person.

WHAT: SHS Theatre Zombie Run

WHEN: 6 p.m. Saturday, April 22

WHERE: Stephenville City Park

Support Stephenville High School Theatre and the Behind the Spotlight Scholarships Drive at the 2nd Annual 5K Zombie Run.

The 5K starts at the Bosque River Trail with turn arounds at the ½ mile and 1 mile markers so runners of all fitness levels can participate.  Runners will have to be chipped time and complete the 5K to be eligible for awards.

Participants can choose to wear a survival belt (flag football belt provided at race) and be pursued by zombies in designated zombie zones. Participants that complete the course with a flag intact, “survive” the run. 

Those that had all flags pulled by zombies were “eaten” by the zombies or choose to run the race and not be pursued by zombies. 

Runners must register by April 9 to be guaranteed a t-shirt and use of a survival belt. The registration fee is $25 by April 9 and $30 through race day.

WHAT: Flacas Clean H2O Run – 5K & 10K

WHEN: 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22

WHERE: 110 North Pecan Street, Hico

This race benefits Kids Across Cultures Clean Water Project.  

Runners pay a $35 registration fee and are required to raise $75 or more in pledges by asking friends and family to sponsor them in the race. Donation can be made online by clicking on the donate button, by check, payable on race day to Kids Across Cultures.  All pledge proceeds and race profits will be given to the KAC water filter project.  

The top fundraiser and win a one-night stay at the newly remodeled and historic Midland Hotel in downtown Hico, with two vouchers for dinner at the Chop House Restaurant.

Breakfast tacos and beer will be provided after the race, compliments of Flacas Fitness & Brew and visitors can also stick around for Spring Swing, an all-day event with craft beer tasting, live music and more to benefitting the Hico Senior Center.

WHAT: Tres Amigos Challenge

WHEN: 8 a.m. Saturday, June 10

WHERE: Dublin, Granbury, Glen Rose

The organizers of these three central Texas bicycle rides are a friendly bunch who wanted to provide the camaraderie for other ridersl. 

Registration for the Tres Amigos entitles you to participate in all three rides, with t-shirts and swag from each ride.

When cyclists complete the (nearly isosceles) triangle through Erath, Hood and Somervell counties, you’ll earn a special long-sleeved t-shirt to wear and flaunt their bragging rights. 

The races include:
The Tour de Agua will be held in Dublin on June 10. Ride starts at 8am.
The Blazin’ Saddle 75 will be held in Granbury on August 5. Ride starts at 7:30am.
The Careflite Paluxy Pedal will be held in Glen Rose on October 7. Ride starts at 8:30am.
