Cowboy Capital represented by 15 local athletes in championship

(March 21, 2016) — Local team ropers dominated in the championship shootout of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo last weekend, led by three-time world champs Clay Tryan of Lipan and Jade Corkill of Huckabay.

The three-time world champs won $100,000 with a run of 4.7 seconds in the championship shootout. Right on their heels was Jim Ross Cooper, a heeler of Stephenville, and partner JoJo Lemond, completing their run in 5.1 for $40,000. Huckabay heeler Paul Eaves partnered with Clay Smith to also reach the shootout. They didn’t have a time, but all four teams were guaranteed a minimum $15,500.

Ryle Smith took second in the championship shootout in tie-down roping. He roped and tied his calf in 9.4 seconds for $20,000.

Several other local athletes reached the championship round of the weeks-long rodeo, one of the most prestigious in Texas. All the finalists with local ties were:
