STEPHENVILLE (March 22, 2016) — For Stephenville senior Josh Nowell, track and field is mostly about field.

And Nowell, a senior who has signed to play football at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, is collecting points in droves in not the typical two or even three field events, but in four.

At the Possum Kingdom Relays at Graham High School Saturday, Nowell won the boys triple jump by more than a foot, placed third in the high jump and long jump and finished sixth in the discus throw. That’s 23 points in four events, by one competitor, before any teams took to the track.

Nowell, also an all-state punter and decorated wide receiver at Stephenville, also used the long stride associated with his 6-5 frame to help the Yellow Jackets to first place in the 4×400 meter relay. It was 20 points that lifted the team into third place in the final standings, and gave him 28 points for the day.

Nowell was joined in the victorious 4×400 effort by Aaron Burrows, Dawson Gray and anchor-man Pedro Manrriquez. Like Nowell, Burrows and Gray are multi-sport athletes who are about to begin the 4A playoffs with the undefeated Stephenville boys soccer team.

Sophomores Payton Wall and Hailey Martin scored the remaining victories for Stephenville. Wall won the 400 meter and Martin was longest in the triple jump.

Martin continues to be the leader in versatility for the Honeybees. She was third in the 100 hurdles, fourth in the long jump and ran on two relays – second in the 4×200 and sixth in the 4×100.
