(April 1, 2016) — Cole Harmon ripped a single that allowed a speedy Seth Heuple to beat a throw to the plate, scoring from second to put Stephenville on top for good in the 10th inning of a near must-win 6-4A district baseball battle at Graham Friday.

The Yellow Jackets added another run in the 10th on a balk with a runner at third, and Bradley Morrison finished off the Steers in the bottom of the inning for a 5-3 win.

It was the first district win for Stephenville, which joins Graham in a tie for third. Brownwood is winless in district play and hosts Stephenville on Tuesday.

The Yellow Jackets should have won in regulation. Austin Wayland reached base three times and scored all three Stephenville runs for a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh. But with two outs and a runner on third, Stephenville dropped an infield pop up to keep Graham alive and send the game to extra innings.

That unearned run was the only one allowed by Bradley Morrison, who worked five innings of relief and retired the last 10 batters he faced. Caleb Gibbons went five innings and surrendered just two runs for the Yellow Jackets, only one of those being earned.

Information from the radio broadcast by Boots Elliott on KSTV 93.1 FM was used in this report.
