STEPHENVILLE (April 8, 2016) – On April 16, 2016, the Stephenville Bass Club, Stephenville Park and Recreation Department, Texas Game Warden Association and other organizations will host their 15th Annual Fish Day in Park.
This special event is held at the Bosque River that runs through the Stephenville City Park. Tarleton Student Wildlife Society will also hold their annual Outdoor Fun Event in the Park that day. The two events will enable youth of this area and their parents/adult to come fish, have a hot dog lunch and continue having fun by visiting Tarleton Outdoor Sports booths and activities. And it all FREE for local youth participants.
“We partner with several sponsors which include the Stephenville Park and Rec Dept., Texas Game Warden Assoc. Stephenville Elks Club and other organizations that want to help,” said Jeremy Allen with the city of Stephenville. “Our first event had about 100 attendees and now we have over 350 come and have a fun day of fishing. The Bass Club and Game Wardens furnish fishing equipment, Wal-Mart furnishes the worms and other sponsors help like furnishing free t-shirts for the event. Also you are able to take home the catfish you catch.”
When fishing is over with at noon, attendees are served a hot dog meal. Then it is back to enjoying the booths and activities of Tarleton Outdoors. Lots of fun to be had by area youth.
Fish Day in Park and Tarleton Outdoors Event is free to those attending. In fact the event is very popular with youth and their parents/adult/families with approximately 300 – 350 attendees each year. Some of the youth have come each year and fished all 14 years the event has been sponsored in Stephenville.
“We have grandparents bring their grandchildren and have a great time fishing,” Allen said. “It is nice to see the river banks in the park filled with so many kids fishing, smiling, having fun and maybe catching a fish. The big smile on their faces tell a great story.”
