Stephenville dominates all-district boys soccer team

(April 12, 2016) — Stephenville was the best team in 4-4A boys soccer and dominated the all-district awards accordingly.

Head coaches in the district voted junior striker Aaron Veloz MVP, junior Tino Rocha Midfielder MVP and senior sweeper Pedro Manrriquez Defensive MVP while also honoring first-year leader Chayden Feist as District Coach of the Year.

Stephenville was 6-0 in 4-4A play, posting shutouts in its final five contests with Noble Alexander, a first-team selection, playing keeper. Other first-team picks included sophomore midfielder Ivan Cabrera and seniors Brady and Brett Alford.

Second-team selections from Stephenville include seniors Matthew Chapman, Santi Gallego, Isaac Lingle and Isaac Iriberum. Honorable-mention honorees are junior Ryan DeLeeuw, senior Aaron Burrows and senior Sabish Shrestha.

Stephenville enjoyed its first undefeated regular season, first district championship and first regional tournament appearance this season. The Yellow Jackets defeated Decatur, Borger and Pampa to reach the proverbial ‘Sweet 16’ before being eliminated, 2-1 in double overtime, by Dallas Life Oak.
