STEPHENVILLE (April 13, 2016) — Tarleton State baseball’s Trevor Renfro and TSU softball’s Haley Freyman have been named pitchers of the week by the Lone Star Conference.

Freyman

For the second time this season and in her career, Haley Freyman has garnered the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week award – this time for earning three wins in three starts against No. 22 Cameron.

Freyman continued to dominate the Lone Star Conference from the pitching circle as the sophomore right-hander made three starts against No. 22 Cameron and delivered a complete-game win in all three games for a 3-0 record on the weekend, which gave her 20 victories for the second straight season.

Her victory in the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader was the 42nd win of her two-year career, which tied her for the fifth most pitching victories all-time with Randi Fentress.

Freyman threw 19.0 total innings in her three wins over Cameron and struck out 17 batters while walking just two – which is an 8.50:1 strikeout to walk ratio. She continues to lead the Lone Star Conference in innings pitched this year as the only pitcher in the league with over 200 innings (203.1). To go along with her league-leading workload, she maintains the third-lowest ERA in the league (2.58).

This is the second time this season Freyman has earned the weekly pitching award from the league. Her first career award came in the first week of the season when she was announced the pitcher of the week on February 9.

Freyman and the TexAnns will hit the road this weekend with a four-game road trip to Texas A&M-Kingsville.

RENFRO

After tossing a three-hit shutout of No. 21 West Texas A&M Saturday, Trevor Renfro was named the Lone Star Conference Pitcher of the Week for the second time.

In last Saturday evening’s contest, the Tarleton senior right-hander outdueled the league’s ERA leader with a complete game shutout of the Buffs at Cecil Ballow Complex. He hurled his second consecutive complete game and his fourth of the season with seven innings of three-hit baseball. Renfro finished the game out in style by sitting down the side in order in the top of the seventh to complete his fifth victory this year.

The right-hander from Richardson struck out 10 batters for his third 10-K game of the season.  In addition to his 10 strikeouts, Renfro also only walked two hitters to boast a strikeout-to-walk ratio of 5-to-1. The Buffs hit just .130 for the game off the Tarleton starter.

Renfro, who earned his first career honor earlier this season on February 9, is now one of three pitchers in the conference to earn the league’s weekly recognition on multiple occasions this year.

Tarleton will head to Portales, New Mexico this weekend for a three-game series with Eastern New Mexico.
