STEPHENVILLE (April 22, 2016) — To have any chance at second place in District 6-4A, Stephenville first had to survive a late rally by rally Brownwood Friday night.

Stephenville took advantage of Brownwood miscues to jump ahead, 4-0, then survived one of its own down the stretch to hold on, 4-3, on senior night at James T. Young Baseball Field.

Then came more good news.

Graham upset Mineral Wells Friday, 9-6, helping Stephenville jump into a second place tie. The Yellow Jackets and Mineral Wells will settle the two and three seeds in a one-game playoff with details to be determined.

A couple hits and an error made it an interesting save situation for Bradley Morrison in the seventh, but the Jacket defense eventually shut the door on a ground out to Easton Jones at third.

Gibbons also had the only extra-base hit for Stephenville, an RBI double to begin the scoring in the first. The Yellow Jackets had just five hits, including singles by Cody Storrs, Aaron Abila, Derek Gifford and Kreed Averhoff.

Stephenville scored three times in the second – once on a hit by pitch with the bases loaded and twice on wild pitches.

Information from the KSTV-FM radio broadcast by Boots Elliott was used in this report.
