STEPHENVILLE (May 2, 2016) — Senior Isabel Jimenez-Perea shot a bogey-free round of 3-under-par 69 to tie for the top spot on the individual leaderboard after the first of four rounds at the NCAA Division II Super Region IV Women’s Golf Championship at Brookside Country Club in Stockton, Calif. Monday.

Jimenez-Perea birdied the 359-yard par-4 second, the 503-yard par-5 10th and the 512-yard par-5 18th and scored even par on the remaining 15 holes. The only four-time women’s golfer of the year in the Lone Star Conference, Jimenez-Perea is tied for first with Ann Parmerter of Dallas Baptist and Ana Sofia Benavides of St. Edward’s.

Beatriz Prados, a Spaniard like Jimenez-Perea, scored 2-over 74, while Kerbey Kipp went 3-over with a round of 75. They are part of log jams, tying for 14th and 22nd, respectively.

Casey Wild and Sarah Gee are tied for 30th individually, as each shot rounds of 76. One of those scores gets dropped from the team card, as only the top four scores apply to each round. Tarleton was the only team with all five players completing the course in under 80 strokes.

The lead is just one stroke, however, with Tarleton sitting at 6-over-par 294, and Western Washington right on its heels at 7-over 295. Sonoma State is 9-over, Dallas Baptist and West Texas A&M are each 10-over and St. Mary’s is 11-over.

The rest of the field includes California Baptist (+13), St. Edward’s (+15), Academy of Art (+16), Point Loma (+21), Cal State-Chico State (+22) and Oklahoma Christian (+26).

Rounds 2 and 3 are Tuesday and Wednesday. The top three teams advance to the NCAA Division II National Championship, where Tarleton has been each of the last nine years.
