TexAnns take two-stroke lead into final round

STOCKTON, Calif. – TexAnn Golf heads to the final round of the NCAA Division II West Regional Tournament with a two-stroke lead after shooting even par on day two at the Brookside Country Club.

No. 6 Tarleton shot a 288 – six strokes better than round one – and is at 582 (+6) through two rounds. West Texas A&M, the only other Lone Star Conference team in the tournament, carded a second-round best 2-under-par 286 and is at (+8). Tarleton leads the field with 122 total pars and is second with 23 birdies.

Isabel Jimenez-Perea led the TexAnns and the rest of the field for the second straight round, as the senior shot 1-under-par 71 and sits atop the individual leaderboard at 140 (-4) overall. Jimenez-Perea, the No. 1-ranked player in NCAA Division II according to GolfStat.com, was even par through the first nine holes with a pair of birdies and bogeys, but finished the back nine at one-under with a birdie on a 146-yard par-3 on No. 17. The 4-time LSC Player of the Year has 28 pars and six birdies through two rounds.

Sarah Gee jumped twenty spots on the individual leaderboard and is tied for 11th after carding a 2-under-par 70. Gee improved her round by six strokes by sinking seven birdies in the round. The second-team all-LSC selection shot 1-under through the front nine and closed out the back nine with birdies on No. 17 and No. 18. Gee has 21 pars and a team-high seven birdies through 36 holes.

Beatriz Prados shot 2-over-par 74 for the second straight round and is tied for 19th at 148 (+4). Prados’ lone birdie of the round came on a par-3 No. 12, and recorded pars on the final six holes. Prados has a tournament-high 31 pars.

Casey Wild climbed seven spots and is in a tie for 24th after improving her scorecard by three strokes to a 73 (+1) in round two. Wild has shot a 149 (+5) and has 22 pars and five birdies. Kerbey Kipp is at 154 (+10) and has 20 pars and four birdies.

Tarleton is making its 10th straight regional tournament appearance and is looking to win its third straight regional title and ninth overall.

The final round begins on Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. PT. The top three teams advance to the NCAA Championships.
