Coughlin runs away in 10K as Tarleton wins four medals

STEPHENVILLE (May 7, 2016) – Tarleton Track & Field competed in the second day of the Lone Star Conference Outdoor Championship Friday and had four athletes medal and 16 qualify for Saturday’s finals at Oscar Frazier Memorial Track.

The Texans are in fifth place with 16 points and the TexAnns are in fourth with 37.

Aly Coughlin won a gold medal in the 10,000-meter run, finishing the 25-lap event in an NCAA provisional time of 36:38.59. Coughlin’s time is also a new school record in the 10,000-meter, surpassing Lindsey Hinton’s time of 37:08.87 in 2014.

Katelin Huckabee claimed a bronze medal in the same event, running the 10K in 38:07.07. Also medaling for the TexAnns was Tylo Farrar in the 3000-meter steeplechase, earning a silver medal by finishing in 11:43.61.

William Carlton took home the only medal on the men’s side, as the sophomore claimed a bronze medal in the pole vault by clearing 15′ 1.5″ (4.61m).

In the preliminary running events, DeAijha Hicks-Boyce finished first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.71. Hicks-Boyce also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter dash with a third-place seed in a time of 24.40. The TexAnns had a pair of athletes qualify in both hurdles events with Deylinn Garrett coming in fifth in the 100-meter hurdles (14.48) and Molly Money in sixth (14.56). In the 400-meter hurdles, Arianna Stegall came in fourth (1:02.85) and Kara Bickham in fifth (1:01.60). Haley Dennard came in in second in the 800-meters in a time of 2:19.05 while Jasmine Owens came in sixth in the 400-meter dash (56.85) and Arield Ballard finished in eighth in the 400-meter dash (57.11).

On the men’s side for the primary running events, Chase Rathke had a second-place finish in the 800-meter run, completing the event in 1:52.70. The 110-meter hurdles had three Tarleton athletes qualify for Saturday’s finals. Dalton Stidham came in third (14.43), Randall Kadlacek in seventh (14.69), and Cade Hitzfeld in eighth (14.71). Kadlacek will also be competing in the finals in the 400-meter hurdles by coming in second in a time of 52.86. Gilson Umunnakwe came in fourth in the 400-meter dash (48.21) and Cornelius Blair came in seventh in the 100-meter dash (10.64).

Saturday’s final events will begin at 11 a.m. with the javelin. The running events begin at 5:30 p.m. with the 400-meter relay.
