SAN ANGELO – Tarleton couldn’t overcome an two-inning, 11-run surge by Angelo State in the first game of the series Friday night as the Texans fell 14-4.

Tarleton scored one in the third when Zach Fleet doubled and eventually came in to score on a passed ball to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the third. After a five-run Angelo third inning, Tarleton tacked on two more in the fourth on RBI doubles from Jake Hasbrouck and Landon Merka to cut the deficit in half at 6-3.

Angelo scored six in the fifth and two in the seventh to cut the game short, while the Texans tacked on one more in the sixth on a Garret Kizer RBI single to centerfield.

Tarleton had seven hits in the game, led by two from Fleet. Alec Humphreys, Hasbrouck, Merka, Zach McCown, and Kizer rounded out the offense. With a seventh inning walk, Tarleton leadoff man Forrest Perron reached base safely for the 16th consecutive game – a team high streak this season.
